Description
This artwork, an eruptive canvas of movement and color, immediately captivates the viewer with its powerful expressionism. Dominated by bold shades of red, this abstract painting exudes a palpable intensity. The vigorous brushstrokes create almost chaotic shapes and textures, intertwined with random touches of black and bright flashes of orange and yellow. These striking contrasts add depth and drama to the composition. The use of different techniques to apply the paint provides a variety of textures that draw the eye to explore every corner of the canvas. The areas of bright red seem to gesticulate with frenetic vigor, while the darker passages of black add a sense of mystery and gravity. At the heart of this work, one can discern linear elements like grids or networks, which intertwine and overlap, accentuating the complexity and dynamism of the scene. This could suggest a certain underlying order within the apparent chaos, a struggle between opposing forces. This painting is not merely contemplative; it invites deep reflection on raw energy and emotion. There is no explicit narrative, leaving the viewer free to interpret, while still confronting them with a visceral confrontation with color and form. In short, this work is distinguished by its bold treatment of color and texture, and its ability to evoke a range of deep and conflicting emotions. It is a visual explosion, a whirlwind of energy that remains firmly etched in the viewer's memory.
Presentation
Self-taught, Benoît Guérin adopts a resolutely abstract approach, where colors and materials meet in an instinctive and spontaneous impulse. His creative process, marked by urgency, alternates between construction, erasure, and restarting.
"The subject of my paintings often appears in spite of myself, I let myself be drawn into the material."
Working primarily in acrylic, he sometimes combines inks and walnut stains, mixing the colors directly on the canvas. Painting on the floor, he physically immerses himself in the creation, where each gesture—scraping, crushing, throwing—gives birth to vibrant and textured works.
Black, omnipresent in his compositions, sculpts light and reveals striking contrasts. Inspired by figures such as Soulages, Marfaing, and De Staël, Benoît explores a captivating chiaroscuro, where matter and emotion come together.
Rooted in abstraction, his landscapes also offer a transformed vision of reality. Colors combine or clash to create new sensations.
Based in Vouillé, in Deux-Sèvres, he draws on the singular and irrational pleasure of painting "Let yourself be carried away by your own feelings, as I let myself be guided by the material." Each canvas becomes a space of freedom, open to personal interpretations.
Benoît has exhibited at numerous exhibitions and has received several awards.
His art, constantly evolving, reflects a quest for balance between instinct and reflection, always driven by the desire to renew himself.
