Description
A great piece from Alwin Reamillo’s one-man show in 2021, “Pharmasika 633” at the NCCA Gallery. The base is large match box, "made in Sweden" with a fantastic depiction of a Indonesian puppet theater under the brand 'Wajang'.

By way of background, at 4, Alwin discovered how to light matches and almost burned down the parents’ piano workshop. This experience inspired nearly 30 years of art constructed from found objects, many of which examine family, the self and identity, with use of recurring metaphor-laden themes and motifs. Major themes and motifs include matchboxes and pianos and others including historical figures such Jose Rizal.

Alwin's art is quite conceptual and leaves room for viewers to interpret the art and issues related to history, especially in relation to the Philippines and colonialism.

Alwin's work is collected across Asia, he is participating in the coming Bangkok Art Biennale 2022.
