Description
This striking sculpture, crafted by renowned artist Pete Jimenez, stands as a testament to modern abstraction. Fashioned from corten steel, the artwork features a skillful combination of geometric forms. The upper section’s cylindrical design evokes a sense of balance and movement, contrasting with the sharply angled, elongated triangular base. Its upward tilt is reminiscent of an elegant, contemporary figure seemingly defying gravity. The artist’s use of rusty, textured finish transforms the surface into a dynamic canvas, reflecting light and shadow intriguingly. This piece challenges traditional notions of stability and form, drawing viewers into its intriguing interplay of mass and void. The exploration of space and material resonates profoundly, making this sculpture a captivating icon of innovation and elegance.
Presentation
Pete is an artist from the Philippines and one of the few Filipino sculptors to consistently explore scrap metal as a medium, transforming old junk into art with wit and humor. New arrangements of objects bring new meaning.
Pete has received many awards in the Philippines and he is regularly shown locally and internationally. His work HINDI KEVLAR (Not Kevlar), an art installation of used military helmets numbering more than 300, was featured in the first Manila Biennale in 2018.
