Description
Presentation
Alexandre Sosnowsky aka Sacha Sosno was born in Marseilles in 1937 and passed away in 2013. A protean artist, he did painting, photography and made sculptures. His father was from Estonia and mother from Nice. He spent a part of his childhood in Riga, Latvia. He did his military service in 1962 and a obtained a diploma in archaeology after having discovered the largest French deposit of Gallo-Roman tombs, with National center for scientific research, an event which made a major impact on his work.
His artistic approach revolves around obliteration: hide to see better, this aspect is part of his paintings and sculptures. Sacha Sosno plays around with empty and full notions, creating images which question archetypes, our subconscious. This emptiness encourages the spectator to imagine and question: he is part of the creative process. Ancient statuary, a true recollection of the Mediterranean has inspired many of his works, like he gigantic Venus, the artist laid this between two granite blocks on the facade of the Elysee Palace hotel in Nice.
He worked as a photo-reporter, produced TV programs, artistic adviser, painter, sculptors, Sacha Sosno has worked and exhibited around the world, from Bangladesh to Biafra, from Italy to the United States, India to Venezuela. His outdoor sculptures are present around Europe but also in China, Beijing. In 1983, an important personal exhibition was devoted to him at Beaux-Arts Jules Chéret in Nice. The artist also did four personal exhibitions in American museums and participated in a collective exhibition at Centre Georges Pompidou « Objets de l'art, Arts de l'objet » among many others.
