Theo Mackaay werd in 1950 geboren in Utrecht. Na de steenhouweropleiding in Utrecht studeerde hij van 1971 tot 1976 aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie en van 1976 tot 1978 aan de Rijksacademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. Mackaay gaat uit van herkenbare vormen: vrouwen, mannen en dieren. Maar allemaal met een soort verwijzing naar de oervorm ervan. Archetypische motieven zoals krijgers, vrouwen, paarden, boogschutters, liefdesparen, gecreëerd met een heel eigen signatuur. Het resultaat is telkens weer verrassend en overtuigend Mackaay. Als voorbeeld van die uitdrukkingsvorm kent u ongetwijfeld het Gouden Kalf, de grote prijs van het Nederlands Film Festival, die in 1980 door Mackaay werd ontworpen in opdracht van Jos Stelling, filmregisseur en initiatiefnemer van het festival. Sindsdien heeft hij zich natuurlijk enorm ontwikkeld, maar de basiskenmerken zijn gebleven?Het Gouden Kalf, de grote prijs van het Nederlands Film Festival, werd in 1980 door de Utrechtse beeldend kunstenaar Theo Mackaay ontworpen in opdracht van Jos Stelling, filmregisseur en initiatiefnemer van het festival. Sinds 1981 wordt deze prijs jaarlijks tijdens het festival uitgereikt aan Nederlandse filmmakers, scenarioschrijvers, producenten, acteurs en actrices. Het beeld is 33 cm hoog en in brons gegoten.Beeldhouwer met een zielTheo Mackaay is de 60 jaar gepasseerd en wie hem iets beter kent, weet dat hij al drie levens heeft geleefd. Met een niet te blussen energie heeft hij zijn leven tot nu toe gevuld. Hoge pieken en diepe dalen, dat schijnt onlosmakelijk bij het kunstenaarsleven te horen. Maar ook een kunstenaar heeft recht op enige mate van rust in zijn leven, zeker als hij ouder wordt. Het heeft er alle schijn van dat Mackaay zijn rust gevonden heeft.Het is een gevecht geweest tussen twee hersenhelften, tussen het wilde kunstenaarsbeest en de nu rustige, beschouwende beeldhouwer. De laatste won! Niet alleen de mens Mackaay veranderde, zijn werk veranderde ook. Grote stoere expressionistische bronzen en natuurstenen beelden waarin de vrouw en het dier zijn favoriete onderwerpen zijn, veranderden in ontroerende, fijngevoelige bronzen sculpturen. In het vroegere werk van Mackaay was de invloed van grote meesters uit het verleden zichtbaar aanwezig, denk aan Marino Marini en Ossip Zadkine. Nu heeft het er alle schijn van dat de kunstenaar de invloeden uit het verleden los heeft kunnen laten. Dat hij nu, in deze fase van zijn leven, zijn eigen vormentaal heeft gevonden, na alle pieken, dalen en omzwervingen. Zwerftochten die hem via Frankrijk, Italië en China naar Malaga in Spanje hebben gebracht, zijn huidige woonplaats.Alle beelden worden in een gelimiteerde oplage gegoten. Van grote beelden worden drie exemplaren gegoten, van middelgrote zes en van de kleinste acht stuks. Na het gieten worden de mallen vernietigd, zo heeft de koper de absolute garantie van een zekere oplage.

Can I negotiate the price of an artwork?

For some artworks, you can negotiate the price. If the price of the work is negotiable, you have a “Make an offer” button under the “Buy this work” one.

To submit your offer, you must make a payment of the desired amount. Your offer will then be forwarded to the gallery, which reserves the right to accept or reject it. If your offer is accepted, it means that your order is confirmed by the gallery and they will prepare the artwork for shipment. If your offer is rejected, you will be refunded the total amount paid automatically. The gallery can also propose a counter-offer for the acquisition of the artwork.

Where can I have my order delivered?

However, please note that once your order reaches its destination, it may be subject to VAT or other customs fees. These charges are beyond our control and you will be responsible for paying them (this is indicated at the ‘checkout’ first step).

Why do I have to pay customs fees?

Return and cancellation

You can return the artwork without needing to provide a reason or pay a penalty fee up to 14 days after receiving your order.

In the case that the right of withdrawal is exercised in the aforementioned time frame, the price of the artwork(s) purchased and the shipping costs will be reimbursed by us as soon as the gallery has received the artwork and notified us.

Artsper will manage the return of the work and will bear the cost of returns (which will either be paid by you and refunded by Artsper or directly paid by Artsper).

The artwork must be returned in perfect condition and in its original packaging (or equivalent).

The buyer exercises his right of withdrawal directly from MUMART, by sending an email to the address: [email protected].
