Belgian artist and Belgian foundry
Lieven D'Haese tells us a story about a child who embraces the future with both arms and both hands open with great joy. Symbolically, the "IIXV" represents the 2 times 5 fingers of his two hands, a hope for "adventure". We can imagine his good dream, the spirit towards the sky like being able to fly like the angels, all the benevolent cosmic energies which reveal to us throughout our life indications on the path to take. Each sculpture of Lieven D'Haese is a "trip". It makes you travel through the memory and the imagination. This is the magic of his symbolic work and his "savoir-faire" with the sculpture and the foundry work. The subject awakes something deep inside and makes the art lover travel somewhere inside. It brings us direct to the roots...Look at the human expression, feel the movement,... Everyone will certainly find a message.
Each edition of Lieven D'Haese is also an unique piece, because the artist has to create a brand new wax model each time and make his finishing in his personal way which is different and unique.
Presentation
• 1957: born in Moanda, Congo
• Lieven D'Haese stems from a famous Belgian family of sculptors (among them Reinhoud/ Cobra and Roel d’Haese), musicians and writers. He followed courses in painting and graphics at the Saint-Luke Institute in Brussels and Ghent, and at the Art School in Aalst.
• The figures of Lieven D'Haese sometimes look like characters playing a role in forgotten stories. He takes us on a journey, a childhood memery, an adventure into the wild nature…, with a lot of delicacy and poetry. This is the artist's genius in wandering us through a mysterious and sometimes dreamlike space, and remind us the child remains in our hearts to return to our initial dreams...
• All of the artist's figures are men or children. It is always very difficult to imagine their ages and this is the artist's genius in wandering us through a mysterious and sometimes dreamlike space time. Youth symbolizing hope, and old age illustrating wisdom, .. Lieven D'Haese plays at blurring the lines.
• Lieven Haese’s works are touching, human and reveal a very positive message to those who know how to look at them. They are unique in their genre, the artist’s signature is very unique.
• Each eaditon of Lieven D'Haese is a unique piece as they have all been completed in a different way, in the artist’s personal way. They have been made with great craftsmanship.
