Description
This artwork is a striking sculpture that captures the viewer's attention with its elongated and exaggerated form. The piece stands tall on a simplistic, yet sturdy base, immediately drawing the eye upwards along its slender structure. The figure, though abstracted, suggests the human form through its narrow torso and implied limbs, giving it a haunting, ethereal presence. The use of dark, monochromatic tones in the material adds a sense of mystery and gravity to the sculpture. The artist's attention to texture is evident in the rough-hewn surface, which creates dynamic shadows and gives the piece an organic, almost skeletal quality. This texture contrasts with the smoothness of the base, grounding the form while also highlighting its verticality. The sculpture's design showcases a keen understanding of balance and proportion. Despite its seemingly fragile appearance, the piece exudes a robust elegance, standing firmly and confidently. The exaggerated elongation of the figure evokes a sense of yearning or aspiration, as if reaching toward some unseen goal or ideal. One of the most unique aspects of this sculpture is its ability to convey emotion through minimalism. There is an intense expressiveness in the way the figure is shaped, each curve and angle contributing to an overall impression of solemn grace. This work commands both attention and contemplation, inviting viewers to explore the depths of its form and the potential narratives it holds. In summary, this sculpture is a masterful work that combines abstract form with profound expressive power. Its meticulous craftsmanship, dramatic texture, and compelling proportions make it an exemplary piece of modern art.
Presentation
Jaromír Gargulák
born 5 February 1958 in Brno
Studied metal casting technology at the Brno Technical University and drawing at the Public School of Arts. He became familiar with methods of artistic casting and with principles of the unique work of Henry Moore. To bring his imagination into reality he uses the method of casting on the tapering wax model making at all times only one original casting.
The author could rank with a range of both known and unknown individuals who purposefully struggled in the whole cultural history of the mankind that their inborn feeling and intelligence yield fruits which would enrich our lives, our environment and our privacy thanks to their talents and immeasurably hard work. As a sculptor, he achieves the mutual unity with the artistic opinion –full of phantasy which prevents fossilization- to find a brilliant shape in the material. The resulting work – artefact, mainly ornamental sculptures, addresses us both with its contents and with its perfect form, noble material and craftsmanship.
The author's repeating motifs are birds, musicians and figures with wings. Even human figures are being deformed to the the appearance of fledgelings. Birds are perceived by the author as the symbols of freedom and liberty. And since he admires music, musicians often appear in his works, too.
Jaromír Gargulák has become an individual artist of the middle generation, an author who does not bother to make his way through by scandal events or using a method of so called artistic shocks but rather by using the strength of thinking and aesthetic refinement, which are properties intrinsic to the graphic arts.
His works are shown in Czech and foreign galleries and in a number of private collections for example in Canada, Japan, Switzerland or Norway.
In 2001, Jaromír Gargulák was awarded a prize of the Masaryk Academy of Arts in Prague for artistic creativity.
From 2001 His works is represented in Interart Gallery Gor
