Description
Ascension is in part a homage to the sculptor, Naum Gabo, and in part an exploration of the 'teardrop' form. The weight and balance of the sculpture has an intricate network of micro wires that become a focal point, bisecting the flowing curves of the outer form. Formed by hand using various metalworking techniques, it is wholly unique.
"I have been fascinated by the works of Naum Gabo ever since coming across a book on him in my (very limited) college library. The symmetry and use of contemporary materials applied in many of his geometric abstraction forms were so different and almost spell binding for me at the time…and to be fair, still are."
Presentation
Thomas follows a passion for creating form based abstract sculpture which responds to aesthetics and fractals within nature. Exploring such principles as Fibonacci led to an understanding that the stunningly beautiful yet often simple laws that nature follow, result in what could most closely be described as perfection within our environment and are synonymous with aesthetic beauty, balance and perfection.
