Description
This striking sculpture depicts a driver frozen in time, caught in the act of turning a steering wheel. The work is crafted from a material reminiscent of eroded stone, accentuating the impression of an archaeological relic. The details of the face and helmet add a touch of striking realism, demonstrating remarkable craftsmanship. However, certain elements, such as the hands and sleeves, appear fragmented, reinforcing a sense of decay and abandonment. The viewer is led to question the history and destiny of this figure forever frozen in action. This work brilliantly juxtaposes stillness with the potential for movement, creating a powerful contrast that captures and holds attention. Through its unique character and its ability to provoke profound reflection, this sculpture affirms its place in contemporary art.
The base can be made of wood, blue stone or iron.
Presentation
• 1957: born in Moanda, Congo
• Lieven D'Haese stems from a famous Belgian family of sculptors (among them Reinhoud/ Cobra and Roel d’Haese), musicians and writers. He followed courses in painting and graphics at the Saint-Luke Institute in Brussels and Ghent, and at the Art School in Aalst.
• The figures of Lieven D'Haese sometimes look like characters playing a role in forgotten stories. He takes us on a journey, a childhood memery, an adventure into the wild nature…, with a lot of delicacy and poetry. This is the artist's genius in wandering us through a mysterious and sometimes dreamlike space, and remind us the child remains in our hearts to return to our initial dreams...
• All of the artist's figures are men or children. It is always very difficult to imagine their ages and this is the artist's genius in wandering us through a mysterious and sometimes dreamlike space time. Youth symbolizing hope, and old age illustrating wisdom, .. Lieven D'Haese plays at blurring the lines.
• Lieven Haese’s works are touching, human and reveal a very positive message to those who know how to look at them. They are unique in their genre, the artist’s signature is very unique.
• Each eaditon of Lieven D'Haese is a unique piece as they have all been completed in a different way, in the artist’s personal way. They have been made with great craftsmanship.
