Description
The Silico Lamp transforms recycled silicone breast implants into sculptural lighting objects. Typically replaced every ten years, many implants remain in excellent condition - made from highly durable, medical-grade silicone that is sterilized before reuse.
The artist, the child of a plastic surgeon, grew up surrounded by these objects and was struck by their unusual beauty. An experiment with placing light behind one revealed the material's extraordinary ability to diffuse light, inspiring the creation of the Silico Lamp as both a functional object and a conceptual exploration of resilience, transformation, and perception.
Presentation
Daniel Klein is a designer and artist with a background in civil engineering. His creative journey began with repurposing discarded materials from construction sites, but his practice has since expanded beyond recycling. After studying product design for two years at Shenkar and two years at HIT, he developed a design philosophy centered on finding meaning and value in every object he creates. Whether through unconventional materials, conceptual exploration, or functional design, his work seeks to provoke reflection and transform everyday objects into purposeful and evocative pieces.
