Scrap Bird V, 2025

The artist on the work: “Scrap Bird V" is the representation of movement in its purest form. Its body, leaning forward with its wings spread, conveys the urgency of a race, the energy contained in each step. It is not a bird that waits, it is a bird that advances, that breaks the immobility and makes its way between the rust and the air.

The torso, composed of curved, rust-colored fragments, retains an echo of protection, as if the metal still remembered its past life as a container or tool. Now it beats like the chest of an animal breathing and launching itself fearlessly. The neck, elongated and tense, ends in a head full of expressiveness: attentive metallic eyes, a firm and defiant beak.

The legs, sturdy and solid, seem frozen in mid-stride, ready to propel the body forward. With this piece, I sought to embody determination. “Scrap Bird V" is not just a sculpture: it is a gesture of resistance and momentum, a reminder that even rejection can be transformed into strength and movement. It is, in essence, a rusty song to the vitality that never fades.

The artist on the collection: Byluka's "Scrap Birds" are born from scrap metal, from the constant recycling that occurs in nature. Iron extracted from the earth, melted down, manufactured and then discarded by industry, now transformed into art.

This is my creative process: changing, unpredictable, raw and natural, guided by the sensations that emerge during the very act of creation.

What remains are the hammer marks, the welding scar, vestiges of the origins and the journey of the material towards a new form.

The raw material for my work, scrap metal, comes from very diverse places, each piece carrying an anonymous story, laden with rust and silence.

A gardener's old sickle, hand-forged by a blacksmith, a gear from a Galician sawmill, a nut that crossed the ocean before getting lost and that I found on the beach, an old broken pair of pliers, given as a treasure by a neighbor, a tractor part, rounded by years of caressing the land of Extremadura... Endless stories that flourish in the "Scrap Birds".
