Description
This intriguing work of art depicts a human figure in diving gear, sculpted from a greyish metal. The man's posture, leaning over the edge of a pool, evokes deep introspection or a moment of hesitation before diving into the unknown. The clean lines of the body and the lack of facial details emphasize a universal anonymity, allowing each observer to project their own thoughts onto the figure. The oversized fins and carefully rendered equipment add a striking touch of realism, contrasting with the abstract nature of the figure. The rectangular angle of the pool highlights the coldness of the scene, while also offering a mirror of water that reflects the work and its surroundings. This sculpture captivates with its study of the link between man and his environment, playing on the themes of contemplation and the invitation to an inner journey.
Presentation
Born in 1970, Manuel Mediavilla is a Spanish sculptor. He studied sculpture at the Fine Arts school in Madrid. He has been teaching sculpture and art since then.
His artistic research revolves around three themes: swimmers, elements and animals, against a backdrop on reflection on the artificial. The swimmers are portrayed in an artificial environment in geometric shapes, they have a dual purpose: structural and allusive. It's the same case for animals, out of their natural context, as if they were human or the humans were animals themselves. The artist asks the Man to question his relationship with the animal and himself.
Manuel Mediavilla's work is exhibited in several artistic institutions like MEAM (European Modern art museum) in Barcelona.
