Description
Sculpture by the English artist, Richard Perry. This title of this sculpture evokes the dynamic beauty of a coastal landscape. Its soft turquoise hues mirror the sea waves, while deep black accents add contrast and depth, reminiscent of the cliffs.
These painted sculptures are a playful exploration in colour, material and surface, transparency and opaque pushing and pulling between actual form and illusionary form and depth. The artist states: “It's an open ended process, I don't know where I'm going but I know when I have arrived".
This piece is typical of the geometric language the sculptor developed in the 2010s characteristic of his current work. Although he works with different materials such as bronze or ceramic, the artist favours stone: granites, marbles, limestones, red sandstones or alabasters from English, Irish and Italian quarries.
Richard Perry's artistic approach focuses on shape and the material, and how they both interact with space and light. Planes, lines, surfaces and voids all come together creating an elegant and solid balance, characteristic of his abstract shaped sculptures.
The artist's creative process is experimental, led by intuition and by premeditation: the two continually battle together ending only 'when the sculpture has a character of its own and when it becomes surprising.'

His creative process is experimental, alternating between intuition and premeditation, guiding him towards the creation of contemporary sculptures with geometric or organic shapes. The artist's monumental sculptures, made for public commissions, have won him multiple awards. His works are part of institutional collections such as those of the British Museum (London), the EDA Garden Museum (Tokyo) and several local public administrations.
