Description
With Olive Tree with Ladder, Aggelos and Filippos Panayiotidis deliver a work where the poetry of symbolism meets the precision of the material. Sculpted in bronze and copper, this 34 cm piece depicts a slender olive tree bearing golden leaves and dark fruit, accompanied by a slender ladder that invites the viewer to climb.
The olive tree, a symbol of peace and resilience, becomes a link between earth and sky. The ladder, delicately leaning against its branches, suggests a path to elevation, knowledge or even dreams. It also embodies hard work and perseverance, recalling the ancestral gestures of harvesting.
Through the balance between the robustness of the weathered trunk and the lightness of the metallic leaves, the artists express their ability to combine power and delicacy. Olive Tree with Ladder thus stands out as a work that is both intimate and universal, an invitation to contemplate the deep connection between man, nature and the imagination.
Presentation
Aggelos Panayiotidis (born in 1950 in Amphilohia, Greece) is a renowned sculptor, known for his work with metal and olive trees, a universal symbol of peace and eternity. Honoured by UNESCO for his contribution to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he created his iconic work Olive Tree – Athens' Tree, a bronze and copper monument that has become an Olympic icon and is on permanent display at Technopolis in Athens, with replicas in prestigious institutions such as the Olympic Museum in Lausanne and the United Nations headquarters.
His monumental and poetic sculptures feature in numerous private and public collections in Greece and internationally, including the National Bank of Greece, the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Coca Cola headquarters in Athens and Atlanta. In 2019, he unveiled his largest monumental olive tree at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne.
Through his works, Aggelos Panayiotidis connects nature, culture and the Olympic spirit, offering collectors powerful and timeless pieces.
Filippos Panayiotidis (born in 1994 in Athens) is a young sculptor who continues and renews the artistic legacy of his father, Aggelos Panayiotidis. Trained from childhood in art and metalwork in the family workshop, he also explored wood carving before becoming, in 2019, co-creator of the monumental olive tree unveiled at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne.
The 2020 pandemic marked a creative turning point for him, leading him to develop new forms and a personal language. Since then, he has participated in several exhibitions in Greece, notably at the Art Space Gallery in Santorini (2024), Art Thessaloniki and Art Athina.
His sculptures, often marked by the symbol of the olive tree, celebrate peace, strength and the Olympic spirit, and can now be seen in numerous galleries and museums in Greece, Cyprus and the Netherlands.
