Description

In A Pandasan’s Dazzling: Scarlet Sparkle, Hiro Ando elevates his emblematic character into a monumental presence at the heart of the series Celestial Guardians: Shimmering Crystal Chronicles.
This 100 cm tall sculpture asserts itself as a majestic pop figure, both familiar and spectacular.
Crafted in resin, the work is entirely covered with meticulously hand-applied red crystals, capturing and fragmenting light from every angle.
Areas rendered in black crystals recall the panda’s natural markings, preserving an emotional link with the original animal figure.
The shimmering surface transforms Pandasan into an almost cosmic presence, oscillating between pop icon and mythological guardian.
Here, Ando diverts a symbol of gentleness to create a powerful contemporary visual monument.
The scarlet color simultaneously evokes vital energy, passion, and emotional intensity.
Each crystal facet acts like a luminous pixel, echoing today’s image-saturated digital culture.
The artist plays with codes of luxury and excess to question the value contemporary society assigns to appearance and brilliance.
Pandasan thus becomes both an ironic and tender reflection of our collective desire for wonder and escape.
The sculpture embodies a fusion between Japanese popular culture and the global aesthetics of contemporary Neo Pop.
Beneath its apparent innocence, the work functions as a protective figure in a visually unstable world.
Ando deliberately explores the boundary between elite art and popular culture accessible to all.
The monumental scale amplifies the sculpture’s visual and emotional impact within an exhibition space.
Light sliding across the crystals gives the impression that the sculpture breathes and evolves with its surroundings.
Here, the artist reveals a psychology oscillating between childlike nostalgia and critical observation of modern society.
Pandasan becomes a contemporary, universal protective totem.
The work perfectly illustrates Ando’s ability to transform playful figures into sculptures loaded with meaning.
The sparkling presence first captures the viewer’s attention before inviting deeper contemplation.
Every detail reflects meticulous craftsmanship and a reflection on the place of imagery in our time.
The sculpture stands as a flagship work within current Nippon Neo Pop aesthetics.
Ultimately, it becomes a radiant celebration of light, emotion, and contemporary imagination.
For collectors, acquiring a work of this scale represents an exceptional opportunity to own an emblematic piece of the contemporary Nippon Neo Pop movement.
The rarity of monumental sculptures entirely realized in crystals, combined with Hiro Ando’s international recognition, gives this creation remarkable artistic and patrimonial potential, making this Pandasan both spectacular and essential within a forward-looking contemporary art collection.

Presentation

Hiro Ando was born in 1973 on the island of Shikoku in Japan. Hiro Ando started his career as an illustrator in 1995. In 2005 he founded with Saori Nakamishi an artist studio in Tokyo to manage the creation and promotion of other young neo-pop artists who express their own popular culture in their creations. Today the studio "Crazynoodles" has ten artists.

Hiro Ando is a versatile artist. He works in oil on canvas, digital media or video. His technique consists of making several sketches before painting on canvas. The painting shapes itself and emerges in the streets of Tokyo at night, and combines lots of colors and graphics. Hiro paints dark cityscapes and goldfish all over the canvas.

The marriage of the two subjects makes the whole of the painting dynamic and violent, with a strange feeling of eternity given by the goldfish which recall old Japanese paintings and watercolors. The sculpture is a recent addition to the media used by Ando, who started working on a series of orange, green sculptures ... inspired by Japanese popular culture. Thus the cat, which is a lucky charm in Japan, like the Maneki-Neko, takes different forms such as the samurai or the sumo wrestler.

The artist translates this theme into a modern style. The shiny and smooth materials, the vivid colors, the brutal but rounded shapes of Hiro Ando's sculptures take us to the world of manga in which the artist's generation grew up. Hiro Ando's art is the meeting between the Meiji era and Manga, he is Shogun in the world of Pokemon, he is traditional Japan seen through the eyes of young people: he certainly belongs to Japanese neo pop art.
