Description
This patinated stoneware sculpture presents an abstract human figure, evoking a fusion of body and hands. The silhouette, stripped of facial details, seems to emerge from two immense, expressive hands, symbolizing a tension between power and vulnerability. The rough texture of the surface lends a tactile depth, accentuating the raw emotions of the piece. The use of earthy hues recalls primal connections to nature, while the dynamic posture of the human form suggests emerging movement, a struggle between rootedness and freedom. This masterpiece of contrast and metaphor explores the dualities of human existence, such as the struggle between creation and destruction. The work invites intimate reflection on our own duality and inner resilience. It is a bold piece that captures the imagination and encourages introspective contemplation.
Presentation
Caroline Chopin works by modeling clay, mainly porcelain stoneware and porcelain. The bronzes are taken from this work. She is inspired by her culture as an art historian allied to her imagination, giving life to creations full of elegance and femininity in both proportion and disproportion. She has been working on forms and volumes in her different series since the early 2000s. Between smooth forms and more abstract and rough forms, her works are in perpetual aesthetic evolution around the body and the material following her research on the sources of energies and emotions. Caroline Chopin has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in France and in Europe. She has carried out two public commissions in the North of France (École maternelles de Saint-Exupéry in Cysoing and a monumental sculpture for Lille Grand Palais. She holds a DEA in History of Art specializing in modern sculpture under the direction of André Stalter (University Lille 3 - Villeneuve d'Ascq).
