Description
Unique sculpture in painted and varnished papier-mâché
Signed by the artist
"Free and strong!"
This is who I am.
Free with my volumes, strong with my colors.
the two always intertwined.
Talking about this work is not a simple matter.
Everything moves, everything dances around me and within me.
There is both gentleness and anger in this expression.
The rounded shapes unfold, the colors intertwine and organize themselves.
When I paint on the volumes, a kind of music can be heard.
In apparent chaos, I seek a balance, that of colors responding to each other.
The faces are looking at us, there are just faces with wide, questioning or slightly surprised eyes: but what do they see?
Our fears and our joys, and the darkness in our hearts as well.
I tell stories about little girls who travel to a parallel world.
I tirelessly search for answers to my inner anxiety.
I'm talking about Alice, the father of the mother, rape, the fox, the dragon, powerful women, the volcano, tears, dreams, oceans, and whispers….
Wabé, December 2025
Presentation
Her colorful and vivid sculptures in papier-mache, represent animals and human beings in an artistic research that follows the same line as that of Niki de Saint Phalle. The artist does not represent reality, but a dream world, an imaginary world inhabited by creatures with exorbitant eyes.
"It is not the materials used that create art, but the way we look at it. Hours of hard work cannot be turned into a precious masterpiece, even if it is made of gold. And yet a medium as humble as paper; papier mâché sets free Wabé’s instinctive talent to create rich, dreamlike landscapes teeming with vitality and hidden depths. Wabé is neither careful nor respectful of norms and natural order. She steps joyfully into unchartered territories of the contemporary art world. She leads us to places where children dream and play amongst animals, to the corners of our imagination."
René TURC, "Wabé, Bifaces et autres merveilles", Edition Grandir, 2014.
Wabé's work has been particularly exhibited in France and Switzeland.
