Description
An iconic figure revisited with irony and flamboyance, where the world of cartoons meets that of luxury and finance.
At the center of the composition, a Scrooge McDuck-inspired character stands confidently, dressed in a bright red suit with patterns reminiscent of luxury brands. His gaze is averted: his eyes are replaced by Bitcoin coins, transforming his expression into a direct symbol of the contemporary obsession with money and new forms of wealth.
The background, entirely covered in dollar bills, amplifies this idea of abundance and materialism, while the gold chain and medallion reinforce the image of ostentatious success. The cigarette dangling from his lips adds a touch of almost provocative nonchalance, accentuating the character's personality—at once powerful, nonchalant, and caricatured.
Framed in a classic gold frame, the work plays on contrasts: tradition and pop culture, “high" art and popular imagery, critique and fascination. It humorously and incisively questions our relationship to wealth, appearance, and symbols of power in a world dominated by image and financial value.
Presentation
Vincenzo De Cillis, born in Salento, Italy in 1984, has lived and worked in Parma for over twenty years. Following a legal education, he made a decisive career shift in 2020 to devote himself entirely to artistic creation, developing a singular universe where technical rigor and Pop aesthetics engage in a powerful dialogue.
His work is characterized by a meticulous mastery of materials and a constant pursuit of formal perfection. Hand-painted artworks and marble-resin sculptures form a rich body of work, elevated by the use of precious materials such as 22-carat gold leaf, Swarovski crystals, and exacting artisanal finishes.
At the crossroads of two heritages—the creative drive of an artist and design-dealer father, and the precision of a technical drawing teacher mother—Vincenzo has forged an immediately recognizable visual signature. His work inhabits a luxury aesthetic that he subverts with subtlety and irony, questioning contemporary codes of desire, possession, and image. Between art, design, and object, his creations transcend traditional boundaries to become true contemporary icons: seductive and brilliant, yet always underpinned by critical reflection. For De Cillis, beauty is a language—simultaneously dazzling and conscious.
