Description

“Two Spaces I" is made by carefully assembling together mineral and other pigments, metal leaves, mica, resin, and canvas on a wooden panel (which is also hand-made and designed by the artist, Masaya Eguchi).

This artwork is a fusion of texture and color, capturing attention with its bold visual contrast and abstract expression. “Two Spaces" is divided horizontally into two sections: The top half features a muted, silver-gray surface, reminiscent of a metallic or textured finish, providing a subtle, reflective quality. Below, a rich navy-blue base dominates, serving as a striking backdrop for vivid, orange calligraphic strokes that sweep across the canvas with energetic movement. These lines exude an aura of spontaneity and controlled chaos, representing abstract thoughts or emotions.

The tilted framing adds an element of dynamism, inviting viewers to ponder its orientation and meaning. This composition uniquely blends geometric austerity with fluid lines, creating a captivating interplay that is both structured and free-flowing. The artwork's color palette and bold strokes make it a statement piece, evoking curiosity and contemplation.

The Japanese artist Masaya Eguchi is interested in the unclear, unstated, unspoken word. He works with organic forms that involve the idea of movement but can't be consciously perceived. He intends to create a new process of perception rather than provide the "conclusiveness" art is supposed to provide. He aims to strive for tacit, intimated imagery in which no two viewers arrive at the same answer. Eguchi focuses on the perception of sense and structure in our lives and the world, thereby questioning reality and common conventions.

Presentation

Masaya Eguchi is an artist of Japanese origin born in Mie (Japan). He studied Fine Arts at Tama Art University in Tokyo. He now works from his studio in Barcelona, where he resides. He has shown his work throughout Japan, in the UK, Spain, Germany and France with pieces in many collections such as Sudo Art Museum (Japan) and Morgan Stanley Japan Securities Co, Ltd.

In his works, the artist combines materials such as wood and paint to create geometric and mostly square compositions, which remind of traditional Japanese paper sculptures. Masaya's work invites us to explore a new universe in which order and chaos come together.

In order to create his works, Masaya contemplates the world calmly. He makes sketches of his vision and puts them aside for a while. Later, he comes back to them and explores their artistic potential. To the artist, his works can be hanged in any direction, since each angle provides different visual experiences.
