Description
This silhouette launches with a striking verticality. The female body stretches. The lines become fluid. The movement suggests an aspiration upwards. The material, a colored resin, clothes the form in a deep and uniform blue. This chromatic choice brings a dreamlike dimension to the composition.
The work on proportions defies reality. The limbs lengthen. The curve accentuates the model's grace. The artist streamlines the details to keep only the essence of the form. This abstract approach transforms the nude into a search for lightness.
The contrast is established at the top of the head. Metallic elements come to break the softness of the curves. They add a graphic tension to the whole. The sculpture rests on a matching rectangular base. The entire piece was made in 2018 using acrylic, metal, and resin.
Presentation
Could artistic expression be considered as Valerie's 'raison d'être?... As far back as Valerie can remember, artistic expression has always been a part of her universe and has had a lot to do with the person she has become.
“My first contact with sculpture draws on the scars of suffering, the rejection of a bruised body; my work is somewhat autobiographical. Women with frail bodies but heavy legs…my period of reconstruction. For over ten years I have been modeling women's bodies. Nowadays I'm looking for lightness, gaiety… I push the model to the extreme, manipulating the body, twisting it, leading it towards its ultimate limit. I abstract the unnecessary details and concentrate on the emotion. The technique has evolved. Clay has given way to coloured resin and the piece is worked to create slender lines. I try to make my approach contemporary and modern."
