Description

Amazone Pyra no.34 is a luminous ceramic sculpture inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, which celebrates the beauty of imperfection, the traces of time, and living matter.

This work belongs to the Les Amazones Pyra collection, a series of unique sculptures. The number accompanying its name corresponds to its order of creation within this collection and testifies to its singular character.

Entirely hand-molded, Amazone Pyra no.34 fully reveals its presence at twilight. The light emanating from its heart does not just illuminate: it inhabits the space, transforms the atmosphere, and invites contemplation.

Fire becomes here the symbol of this inner light that each of us carries within. A discreet, fragile, and precious flame that must be protected to continue moving forward.

The rough textures, irregularities, and sculpted cracks are not flaws. They tell the passage of the gesture, the memory of the earth, and the beauty of the marks left by time.

Artisanally made in my workshop in the Basque Country, this contemporary sculpture is a unique piece. It is signed by the imprint of my stamp applied to the clay before firing, making this signature an integral part of the work.

This sculpture originates from a modeling entirely done by hand, from which I then make a plaster mold myself to preserve the natural characteristics of the marbled stoneware. This process allows me to keep the white and gray veins of the material. A sculpture made only by modeling would gradually end up mixing the two earths and would make this natural marbling disappear.

I then create slabs of marbled stoneware that I stamp in my molds before taking this sculpture back entirely by hand. The two busts are assembled on a base that I shape from a one-centimeter-thick clay slab, then I let the earth set before fixing the head, made separately.

This step is one of the most intuitive moments of my work. The head is never oriented in advance. I wait for the sculpture to begin revealing its presence to choose its inclination, depending on the dialogue that establishes between the two female figures and what I feel at that moment. Each work thus finds its own balance and expression.

Once the structure is solid enough, I create the hair, the last step of the sculpture. I hand-mold long coils of about 70 centimeters by rolling the clay on the table to obtain a regular thickness and sufficient strength to be braided all at once. This technique allows the two braids to naturally join the two skulls while maintaining their fluidity.

Once the braids are in place, I apply several successive layers of thick slip. The curves and tensions exerted by their weight require progressive reinforcement to consolidate the whole and limit the risk of cracking during drying and firing. This step entirely done by hand fully contributes to the identity of this sculpture and makes its hair truly unique.

This sculpture is then fired at 1250 °C.

The work is accompanied by its ceramic casing, designed as an integral part of the sculpture, as well as a first set of Minhâ Pyra light refills, made artisanally in my workshop from 100% natural coconut wax.

Thoughts as an extension of this work, the Minhâ Pyra refills allow its light to be revived over time. Designed without containers to limit waste, they are part of a sustainable approach and extend the contemplative experience imagined during its creation.

When the wax is completely consumed, it is enough to gently clean the stoneware casing before placing a new refill in it. Each refill offers about four hours of burning and allows this experience of contemplation to be prolonged.

Each work is shipped with the utmost care to ensure its safety during transport. The indicated delivery time is deliberately estimated prudently and may be shorter depending on the destination of the work.

Presentation

French ceramic artist, Leslie Daisy creates sculptures inspired by volcanic landscapes, eroded stone, lush vegetation, and the natural forces that slowly transform matter.

Her universe is aligned with an approach close to Wabi-Sabi: an aesthetic that celebrates imperfection, the traces of time, and the beauty of transformations.

After an initial career in artistic makeup and special effects, interrupted by the discovery of a genetic disease affecting her joints, she discovered clay three years ago. This living material quickly became her new artistic language.

Each sculpture is entirely handmade. Leslie works with sandstone, earthenware, and other materials such as resin or stabilized plants to create works where textures, light, and matter dialogue.

All her sculptures belong to the Cycle of the Amazons.

These female figures do not represent ideal heroines, but silent presences that advance, resist, and transform. They bear the traces of their history as the rock preserves those of time.

Some works, particularly luminous ones, reveal another facet of twilight. Light then becomes a material in itself, giving birth to an intimate and enveloping presence that transforms the perception of the sculpture.

Through them, Leslie wishes to offer moments of contemplation and to remind that strength and fragility can coexist, and that a flaw can sometimes become the starting point of a metamorphosis.

Today, her work is aimed at collectors, architects, hotels, and places where art dialogues with nature and architecture.
