Description
The elongation of the forms imposes an immediate silence. This filiform silhouette stretches downward in a posture of deep introspection. The body, almost spectral, seems fragile under the effect of an invisible gravity.
The bronze presents a rough grain. This surface work captures the light irregularly and emphasizes the tension of the character. Each fold, each unevenness accentuates the feeling of reflection.
The contrast is marked by the horizontal base. This dark and rigid base made of steel anchors the figure in a cold material reality. Five regular perforations come to rhythm this support, bringing a geometric dimension to the composition.
The precarious balance of the sculpture invites contemplation. The gaze is drawn to the curve of the neck and the abandonment of the arms along the body. This piece explores human vulnerability through a total formal stripping away. The whole rests on a rectangular plate of dark steel.
Presentation
Born in 1974, Julie Malbequi lives and works in the Parisian region. A sculptor and psychologist, she develops a practice nourished by a shared curiosity for the human being.
Her elongated characters, with imperfect, sometimes damaged bodies, allow us to see our fragilities without seeking to repair or conceal them. They invite us to look upon them with a softer gaze.
Long in the heart of her work, plaster today dialogues with bronze, metal, or concrete. Accidents, roughness, and irregularities of material participate in her sculptural language where strength and vulnerability coexist.
Today, her work opens up to public space and participatory projects. Sculpture thus becomes a way to meet places and those who inhabit them.
