Slender silhouette posed on a black pedestal, Mrs Kloud seems straight out of a world that is polished and playful. Her deep blue t-shirt, her acid green pleated skirt, and her pink ankle boots with white polka dots make up a bold palette, enhanced by a lacquered finish with shiny reflections. Everything, in her appearance, evokes an era shaped by aesthetics, consumption, and permanent exposure.
Yet, where a face should assert individuality, there is only a cloud.
This pastel blue cloud, with its round and puffed volumes, is nothing empty. It is in perpetual transformation: an accumulation of information, emotions, projections, and noise. It suggests a mind saturated by the incessant flow of data and images that characterizes our time.
Rather than expressing a fixed identity, Mrs Kloud absorbs and reflects what surrounds her. She becomes a moving surface on which everyone projects their own meaning, true to Hugo Brun's conviction that art must remain open to interpretation.
Central figure of the artist's universe, Mrs Kloud reappears in several of her works, notably the paintings and , and forms with Mr Thunder, her companion at the helm of the lightning, a duo as contrasting as complementary.
In 2019, Hugo Brun founded his own contemporary furniture house and immediately stated an ambition: to create pieces that resemble nothing known. Vivid colors, geometric shapes, sometimes exaggerated proportions, and unexpected materials make up a universe where the line between functional object and sculptural work is deliberately blurred.
Contrary to the idea that an object should discreetly blend into its decor, Hugo Brun designs pieces made to attract the eye, disrupt visual comfort, and provoke conversation. Under his approach, an interior becomes an expressive environment, where art and design become a true experience.
His entire work is based on the meeting of opposite worlds: nature and the urban universe, ancient and contemporary, integrity and fragmentation. He thus unites ancient Egypt and the Memphis movement of the 1980s in , or disturbs the classical ideal of the antique Venus with graphic motifs in . With , colorful pills invade the blue and white decor of a vase inspired by the Ming dynasty.
Street art holds a central place in his imagination. It pays homage to the unfinished towers of Los Angeles covered in graffiti, while and are born from the memory of an abandoned water park where the artist once entered, a forgotten place reinvested by graffiti artists.
Hugo Brun has given birth to a whole world of recurring characters. Mrs Kloud, whose face is a cloud in perpetual transformation, embodies a contemporary identity saturated with images and information. Her companion Mr Thunder, with a lightning bolt head, symbolizes impulse and energy. Romulus, a traveler crowned like an emperor and masked like a rebel, oscillates between the ancient world and urban culture, while Aiko pays homage to manga and Japanese animation.
In painting, the artist develops several series: graffiti and Pop Art interventions on covers of famous tabloids, the series which associates illogical images, or still the series , which twists color palettes by assigning intimate and humorous descriptions to them.
In Hugo Brun's work, humor often serves to question our time. , a giant and deliberately absurd pill, questions the ideal size of a dose of happiness. , an oversized balloon struck by the word EGO, mocks vanity, and freezes watches and bills in a block evoking ice to question our relationship with luxury and desire.
For the artist, art remains above all open to interpretation: it seeks to evoke an emotion and leave everyone free of their perception, rather than to impose a meaning.
Hugo Brun travels regularly through Asia to present his work to a growing network of clients and collectors.
