Description

Hiro Ando delivers with Pandason’s Orange: A Lilliputian Ballet of Chromatic Marvels a monumental work that fully embodies the spirit of the Nippon Neo-Pop movement.
Standing 130 cm tall, the sculpture presents the iconic Pandasan figure in luminous glossy orange resin, supported by an internal steel structure that ensures both stability and sculptural presence.
Here, the artist transforms the panda’s gentle symbolism into a powerful yet joyful pop icon instantly recognizable within his artistic vocabulary.
The seated posture conveys calm and serenity, contrasting with the vibrant energy of the orange tone.
This warm color infuses the work with a radiant, almost festive vitality, reinforcing its welcoming character.
The body of the figure is composed of a multitude of meticulously assembled miniature pandas.
Each micro-figure acts like a cell forming a larger collective organism.
This visual repetition conveys the idea of unity emerging from multiplicity.
Ando thus evokes the harmonious coexistence of individuals in a globalized world.
The glossy surface captures and reflects light, allowing the sculpture to shift with its environment.
Viewers subtly find themselves integrated into this play of reflections, becoming part of the artwork.
The contrast between monumentality and the accumulation of miniature forms creates a captivating visual tension.
The work embodies Ando’s ability to combine visual humor with symbolic narrative.
Pandasan appears as a protective figure, simultaneously childlike and reassuring.
The sculpture subtly engages with contemporary themes of community and interconnectedness.
The series The Miniature Saga: A Playful Palette of Petite Marvels explores this logic of identity built through repetition.
Each tiny panda functions as an emotional fragment integrated into a collective presence.
The artist demonstrates his mastery of pop sculpture infused with emotional resonance.
The piece combines immediate visual appeal with discreet conceptual depth.
Its chromatic vitality enhances the optimistic spirit inherent in Pandasan’s universe.
The sculpture reveals Ando’s fascination with joy hidden within simple forms.
For collectors, acquiring Pandason’s Orange represents a rare opportunity to secure a monumental and emblematic work within the language of contemporary Japanese Neo-Pop art.

Presentation

Hiro Ando was born in 1973 on the island of Shikoku in Japan. Hiro Ando started his career as an illustrator in 1995. In 2005 he founded with Saori Nakamishi an artist studio in Tokyo to manage the creation and promotion of other young neo-pop artists who express their own popular culture in their creations. Today the studio "Crazynoodles" has ten artists.

Hiro Ando is a versatile artist. He works in oil on canvas, digital media or video. His technique consists of making several sketches before painting on canvas. The painting shapes itself and emerges in the streets of Tokyo at night, and combines lots of colors and graphics. Hiro paints dark cityscapes and goldfish all over the canvas.

The marriage of the two subjects makes the whole of the painting dynamic and violent, with a strange feeling of eternity given by the goldfish which recall old Japanese paintings and watercolors. The sculpture is a recent addition to the media used by Ando, who started working on a series of orange, green sculptures ... inspired by Japanese popular culture. Thus the cat, which is a lucky charm in Japan, like the Maneki-Neko, takes different forms such as the samurai or the sumo wrestler.

The artist translates this theme into a modern style. The shiny and smooth materials, the vivid colors, the brutal but rounded shapes of Hiro Ando's sculptures take us to the world of manga in which the artist's generation grew up. Hiro Ando's art is the meeting between the Meiji era and Manga, he is Shogun in the world of Pokemon, he is traditional Japan seen through the eyes of young people: he certainly belongs to Japanese neo pop art.
