Angelo Tozzi

Italy • 1960

Biography

Angelo Tozzi was born in 1960 in Latina, where he lives and works. A graduate in architecture, he began painting as a child. He finds his inspiration by studying the works of the great masters of informal and conceptual minimalism. He experiments with all the main pictorial techniques and particularly admires Picasso, Mirò, Pollock, Lucio Fontana, and Alberto Burri.

Until the mid-1980s, he took part in numerous group exhibitions, but felt the need to withdraw in order to pursue personal research, which led him to work with very few signs and an almost complete absence of color. This systematic reduction of signs and colors brought him to kinetic and programmed art, in which nothing is left to chance. Everything is carefully planned, eliminating the spontaneity of the gesture.

After years of producing works only for himself, in 2003 he decided to return to exhibiting in both solo and group shows.
