Born in 1981 in Santiago, Chile, Caiozzama, whose real name is Claudio Caiozzi, is a Chilean contemporary artist , photographer , collage artist , and a major figure in Latin American street art . His deeply committed work combines humor, satire, and social critique through the paste-up technique, transforming urban space into a place for collective reflection on the major political, economic, and cultural issues of our time.
Trained in audiovisual communication and then photography, he worked for several years as a photojournalist, notably for the daily newspaper El Mercurio. His professional career led him to travel for nearly four years in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean, including stays in England, China, and the Dominican Republic. These experiences enriched his artistic practice and allowed him to discover the various forms of contemporary street art , graffiti , urban collage , and ephemeral interventions in public spaces.
It was in Paris and then London that he discovered the paste-up technique, which involves affixing printed images to walls. Returning to Chile in 2014, he developed a personal method blending photography, digital photomontage, and monumental collage. A perfectionist, he creates all his compositions in his studio before installing them in the street, considering the city as an open gallery accessible to all.
Caiozzama's universe is characterized by a strong political and social dimension. His works address themes such as consumerism , social media , migration, police brutality, the excesses of multinational corporations, ecology, and the transformations of contemporary Chilean society. By appropriating popular icons, historical figures, religious figures, and heroes of popular culture, he constructs an immediately identifiable visual language based on irony and the power of symbolism.
His work has gained international recognition thanks to several viral pieces, notably his interventions criticizing the textile industry or reinterpreting iconic figures from sports and film. During the 2019 Chilean social uprising, he documented the events as a photographer while producing numerous politically engaged works, becoming one of the movement's most prominent artistic voices.
Caiozzama has created over a hundred urban interventions in Santiago, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Bogotá, Mexico City, Barcelona, and Paris. In 2019, he participated in the "Lights of Chile" exhibition at the 193 Gallery, dedicated to the contemporary Chilean art scene. He also works at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bogotá and leads numerous workshops on urban collage and socially engaged street art .
Through his monumental collages and photographs, Caiozzama has developed a profoundly humanist body of work where urban art , collective memory, and a critique of power intersect. His approach has made him one of the leading figures in contemporary Chilean street art and international political collage .
