Presentation

Paul Alves is one of those artists who transfigure the soul... If abstraction is lyrical, his becomes meaty!

Indeed, the envelope is erased and only lets perspire through the pores of the canvas the sensitive and the heart, only the feeling and the movement of the souls nourish and guide its sinister hand... That of the heart.

He paints with passion! Not just a mental cosa...

With an atypical course, contrary to that which one could conceive, Paul Alves transcends the color to magnify the emotions in materials. His abstraction is ultimately cradled by his whole being.

With a legal background, he nevertheless has a wandering soul, in search of humility of course, but above all of bursts of light...

His leitmotif? create emotion in his contemporary! Giving matter, nourishing the spirit, in short giving a pictorial pleasure to others.

Paul Alves is a man of action and that's what he puts on his canvas! Like a general carried away by the smell of gunpowder, it is "taking" the canvas that matters to him! A fight between man and support!

Rub shoulders with brutality to bring out a certain "candor" and above all a winner!

Like the clown who, like the Lacedaemonian, smiles at the bite of a fox (The Painter of Modern Life, Charles Baudelaire), Paul apes life and struggles with it on the canvas.

Sometimes raw, but always delicate with these rootlets of ink or walnut husk which carry all the sap of this painter in his works.

It is generally the materials that guide his feelings in front of the virginal canvas. One could even consider a veil that often lands on scorched earth playing with transparencies, sometimes masking the materials...

Some might imagine seeing his work as a resurgence of abstract expressionism worn by Pollock or Rothko, but he is closer to the sensitive works of Asian artists like Zao Wou-Ki...

From the Vosges to Asia there is only one step, the work of Paul erases it by taking all the essence. Nature rock it...

This Rimbaud reference is not to underline the darkness of the work of Paul Alves but rather to highlight the sensitivity through "darkness".

Perhaps sad, often joyful, these canvases are a reflection of his depths. Not the portrait of Dorian Gray of course, but rather simply a free man who lives his painting with the greatest possible honesty.

Sensitivity being its common thread, let's avoid sabotaging it by putting it in the hands of some Ariane...
