This artwork presents a compelling arrangement of four portraits, each uniquely altered and annotated to evoke emotional depth and introspection. The composition features a grid layout on a textured, tan background, drawing attention to the individual expressions and stories encapsulated within the faces. At the top left, a male face is framed with a red line through the forehead, accompanied by the text: "He saw a movie that changed his life but wishes he could forget it." This statement adds layers to his contemplative gaze, suggesting a struggle between inspiration and regret. Adjacent to this, in the top right, a woman's face is marked with the word "WHY?" and the cryptic "SHE STILL BELIEVES." Roberto Fonfría lives and works in Miami, Fl. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1969. Roberto Fonfría creates stories through a random mix of found images, photographs, drawings, and words. He combines these elements and builds layers and textures using acrylics, common objects, and collage. His work explores human behavior and social rules with a critic eye and humor, touching on personal themes such as dreams, fears, and memories. The images come from old magazines, advertising and photo albums collected at thrift stores. By extracting them from their natural context, he reconstructs them by adding references to popular culture as well as common phrases and insights that come from his Venezuelan childhood.
