Presentation

Pierre Jourda was born in 1931 in Montesquieu-Volvestre. A studious child, he was particularly good at drawing. At the age of 15, he joined the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and later that of Paris, from which he graduated with honors in 1953. He then chose a career as a teacher and taught drawing at the Ecole Normale des Teachers de la Ville de Toulouse.

Pierre Jourda is an introverted and modest artist. He enjoys anonymity and solitude, showing his work only to his close friends. All his free time he devotes to creation. His work is inherited from cubism. He is particularly admiring of the work of Fernand Léger with whom he shares his taste for painting "witness of his time".

His work reflects his observations of the world, but also his contemplations and meditations. His paintings are often geometric, with a balanced contrast of colors and sometimes surprising shapes. At the end of his life, his work matured "his paintings are more stripped down, without chatter, they get to the point" testifies his wife Andrée.

This artist who never exhibited during his lifetime, offers us today his vision of the world tinged with optimism and sensitivity.
