Pierre Windorf

After studying at the Beaux-Arts de Marseille in 1960, Pierre Ducellier "Windorf" moved to the Paris region where he worked as an architect and interior decorator.

During his free time, he painted religious scenes which were quickly abandoned at the end of the 1960s to move towards an abstract painting, first lyrical before plunging definitively into geometric abstraction.

In 1976, he exhibited a 170x130cm canvas at the Salon Comparaisons at the Grand Palais in Paris under the name Pierre Ducellier.

Given the success he met, he decided to persevere in his geometric style and presented two works in 1978 at the same Salon, "Acid Test" and "Drums2", but this time under the patronymic of Pierre Windorf, an artist's name that he definitively adopted and which he would keep until the end of his life.

His creative power finds its sources in the neo-plastic movement whose founding father is Piet Mondrian and the Bauhaus movement, and whose heir is Jean-Albert Gorin and all the Swiss school and Berlin artists including Günter Fruhtrunk.

Pierre Ducellier had a real passion for Berlin, where he executed many paintings, and took the diminutive Windorf to dissociate his artistic work from that of decorator. But like Mondrian, he does not deny the decorative works where the color and shapes are sufficient in themselves, thus occupying the space.
