David Shrigley is a Scottish artist born in 1968 in Macclesfield, UK. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and lives now in Brighton, England.
He is best known for his satirical drawings, critics of our daily life and social interactions. His recurring subjects depict a vision of a childish world, sometimes even including elements from childhood fantasies such as monsters and aliens.
His work focuses mostly on drawing, but is not limit to this practice, since he makes as well sculptures, installations, animations, paintings, photographs and even music. He collaborated in the transformation of the Sketch Gallery in London in a long-term program of restaurants designed by artists.
He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2013 and his work has been exhibited in several internationally renowned events such as his installation "Life Model" presented at the Unlimited platform of Art Basel in 2015. Some of his pieces are part of important international collections such as those at the MoMA in New York, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, the Museum Ludwig in Cologne or the Tate in London, just to name some.
