José Mijares was born in Havana, Cuba on June 23, 1921. At the age of 47 years exile in the U.S. and lived in Miami, Florida. He worked primarily as a painter, printmaker and draftsman. In 1938 he studied at the National School of Fine Arts "San Alejandro" in Havana, Cuba. During the years 1958-1961 was a member of the Ten Concrete Painters of Havana. In 1959 until 1960 ACHIEVEMENT professor at the National School of Fine Arts "San Alejandro" in Havana, Cuba. Later, between 1968 and 1973 was a member of Gala Group in Miami, Florida, USA. States. and in 1970 began the Art Director of the Blue Scorpion Magazine Miami, Florida, USA.
Solo Exhibitions
In 1947 Mijares presented the show at the Lyceum in Havana, Cuba where he later returned in 1965 to make another exhibition under the same title. Starting 80 'exhibited mirages of Mijares in Coral Gables, Florida, United States and in 1989 the cry of Yara Recalling also in Miami, Florida. Four years later, in the same city, The World of Jose Mijares Marpad held at the Art Gallery, Coral Gables in the same U.S. state. Celebrating half a century of artistic work in 1994 was Celebrating Mijares. 50 Years of creation from the 29 April 29 until July 24 at the Cuban Museum of Arts and Culture in Miami, Florida and also in 1996 Mijares big in Alfredo Martinez Gallery in Coral Gables, Florida, USA.
Group Exhibitions
He participated in several group exhibitions such as the Fine Arts Salon XXIV in February 1942 in the Fine Arts in Havana. In 1952 he was part of the guests at the prestigious Venice Biennale XXVI June 14 to October 19, held in Venice, Italy. In 1968 he was a member of four generations of Cuban artists in the Koubeck 1895-1940 Memorial Center at the University of Miami, Division of Continuing Education, Cuban Culture Program in Coral Gables, Florida. In 1976 Retrospective of Cuban painting. Cuban reunion.
Awards
Mijares has won many awards during his career. some of them are: the second prize in the Third National Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture, Hall of Lost Steps. National Capitol, Havana, Cuba, the National Prize for Painting at the IV National Exhibition of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving of the Asturian Center of Havana, Cuba, in 1950, Honorable Mention at the International Exhibition in Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Institute , Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in 1954. In 1956 another honorable mention in the Eighth National Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba. And in 1970/1971 also won the Cintas Foundation Fellowship in New York, USA.
