Figurative, the artist also turns to abstraction. In 1953, Jean Cassou, Chief Curator of the National Museum of Modern Art and Le Réseau du Souvenir, an association of former deportees, had a monument erected in memory of the two hundred thousand French people deported to the Nazi camps. Designer, engraver and sculptor, Raymond Veysset is the author of the sculptures of the Memorial in the square behind Notre Dame de Paris on the Ile de La Cité. Veysset is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Paris and Meudon.
