Biography

Claire Fahys explores the future of social relationships in an increasingly virtual and global world. Claire Fahys (b. 1984 in France) is graduated from Central St Martins School. She lives and works in Berlin.

Freed up from any material constraint, virtual communities allow infinite interconnections for an unlimited population. But like vertical villages imagined by Le Corbusier in the 30s, these giant cities that aim at developing human relationships do have a dehumanised aspect. In the transition from the old real world to the new virtual world, human beings make the scaring experience of their smallness relative to the mass.

Claire’s technique is considerably varied: photo transfer, collage, gouache, use of inks, pencil…The painting thus deliberately aims to combine a multitude of textures, reminiscent, in that, to the common architectural practice of mixing up different kinds of materials.: blocks of buildings, concrete bridges, aesthetically neutral or even distasteful constructions yet fascinating in their total disregard for imprinting any kind of ‘human trace’.
