Biography

Lara Broecke is a British artist, born in 1974 and based in France since 2012. Graduated from a Master's Degree in Art History, Oxford University.

Her work draws on her study of medieval and early Renaissance painting techniques and takes its inspiration from artists such as Pisanello, Uccello and Ghirlandaio. She uses hand-ground egg tempera paint and gold leaf on wooden panels to create jewel-like miniatures with a sense of exquisite intimacy.

She often takes animals as her subjects and focuses on composition and the decorative. In this way she conveys a sense of the magical in the natural world and invites the viewer to enter into the medieval mind.
