Biography

Wu Tsang is a filmmaker, performer and artist. She is known for her audiovisual works and films which highlight the queer experience. Tsang obtained her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004. 

Combining social activism with aesthetic performance, Tsang first rose to prominence in 2012, following the success of her documentary film, “Wildness", which, like the majority of her works, fosters conversations around issues of gender, sexuality, and social justice. 

Tsang has received numerous awards and accolades for her work including a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2016 and the MacArthur Genius grant in 2018. Her work has been featured in many key institutions including the Tate Modern and the Museum of Modern Art, as well at the 2012 Whitney Biennial.
