Biography
Victor Solomon is a multidisciplinary American artist based in Los Angeles, known for blending traditional stained glass craftsmanship with the contemporary aesthetics of basketball. Born in Boston, he grew up seeing basketball as an accessible escape, in contrast to expensive sports like hockey. This experience deeply shaped his artistic vision, driving him to explore the intersection of sports, urban culture, and visual art.
At 18, Solomon moved to San Francisco to study film at the Academy of Art University, but quickly pivoted after discovering a local stained-glass studio run by retired masters. There, he learned traditional techniques and began applying them to iconic basketball objects, reimagining hoops and balls as luxury, conceptual artworks.
In 2015, he launched the project "Literally Balling", a series of works that transforms basketball icons using stained glass, gold, and crystals, elevating the sport to fine art. One of his most notable creations is the "Kintsugi Court" in South Los Angeles, a basketball court repaired with golden resin in the style of Japanese kintsugi, symbolizing resilience and the beauty of imperfection.
Solomon has collaborated with the NBA, including designing the All-Star Game trophies, and with elite athletes such as LeBron James and Kevin Durant. His works have been showcased at Art Basel Miami and in galleries across New York and Los Angeles, earning praise for turning everyday sports icons into works of high art.
