Abstract Street Art
The unpredictability of human behavior and the socio-political context it resides in articulates itself in abstract street art. By moving away from realism and using light, color, shapes and mixed media, abstract art creates movement on the walls (its canvas) of the urban landscape to echo the dynamism of itself and its subject matter. Constantly in motion, abstract street art abandons the need to capture a snapshot of reality, offering an escape from the hyper-realism of living surrounded by concrete walls. Graffiti art later influenced street artists to find freedom within geometric patterns, elevating their use of color and ending a reliance on form and composition to convey their work and its meaning. In Artsper's own collections, Sylvie Barco states that as she is about to cross a street, she stops in front of a red brick wall and is struck by a detail, a flash of a perceived image. It disturbs perception, upsets the gaze and like other abstract artists, she has the ability to lead the viewer's eye along her work to why they should stop too. Whilst Antony Squizzato focuses on the dual society of networks and loneliness…emoting reality without depicting it. There's a power in abstract street art.
