Description
Twinkle V is a small-scale oil painting by British artist Lucy du Sautoy, known for her poetic exploration of perception through the motif of the window.
In this intimate work, a simple smiley face appears as if drawn onto a pane of glass, layered over a view of London's iconic Shard glowing in the distance. The building is softly blurred, while twinkling twilight lights shimmer around it, suggesting an urban skyline seen through mist, condensation, or reflective glass.
Balancing playfulness with atmosphere, du Sautoy transforms an everyday city view into a dreamlike moment of observation. The contrast between the fleeting doodle and the monumental architecture creates a dialogue between human gesture and urban scale.
Rooted in themes of daydreaming, memory, and transience, captures a fleeting encounter between inner expression and the external city at dusk.
Presentation
"The window as a subject has become my platform to explore the mechanics of painting and to register human experience. I like to consider my paintings as contemplations of the changing surface of everyday window panes, acknowledging random moments in time and space helped by changes in weather, the season, or the light of the day. And how our experience of gazing out of a window can be touched by memories, hopes, uncertainties and daydreams."
Lucy regularly exhibits in group and solo shows. She is frequently commissioned and her work is held in private and corporate collections across the UK, and in Europe and the US.
Lucy graduated in 2015, with a first class Diploma in Fine Art from the Art Academy, London. She lives and works in London with her husband and four children.
In February 2019 Lucy won the Artists and Illustrators Magazine "Artist of the Year 2019".
