Biography
The vibrant life of Amsterdam, the art academy and the city's constant buzz marked the beginning of Karlien's career in the visual arts. The lively squares and busy streets served as her initial source of inspiration and formed the foundation of her artistic journey. Although she later left the city, she carried its energy and creative spirit with her to Laren — her birthplace and home.
Karlien's studio in Laren functions as a visual laboratory, where she works daily with great energy and passion. She enjoys experimenting with a wide range of materials, combining acrylic paint with movement, spontaneity and a playful touch. Her work gives traditional, convivial scenes a modern and fresh interpretation, always infused with a subtle sense of humor. Translating the images that arise intuitively in her mind directly onto canvas is at the heart of her practice — a quality that defines both her strength and her distinctive artistic signature.
