Fabienne Arietti

It is the working of the pictorial material which interests Arietti, as shown in both her technique and her works. In 1973, the artist enrolled at ENSAAMA in Paris, after graduating with a BTS degree in applied arts (architecture section). At ENSAAMA, Arietti developped her creativity, and had the time to hone her unusual technique, abandoned by the painters of today.

In a sort of reconciliation with historical painting techniques, Arietti creates her artistic material herself : she crushes the pigments which serve as the base for her chromatic melanges, and then patiently superposes multiple layers of glaze. Her works, composed of these materials, are those of a confirmed painter.

Upon graduation, she decided to pursue art history studies at the Institut Supérieur des Carrières Artistiques. While attending this school, Arietti learned techniques of false wood, gilding and the art of restoring frescoes and paintings : traditional, authentic techniques appreciated by the artist. In 1980, Arietti took a studio in the Villa Corot in Paris with her companion, artist and militant director Dominique Maraval.
