  • About the artwork

"Faced with the complexity of a set with a lot of information, like a modern megalopolis, I wanted to represent this reality by minimal plastic means, radicals. For that I worked out a writing, a coding made of points and lines on a background, a plan, neutral. Hence the title of this series - Point, Plan, Trait -. From then on, the painting becomes an experience in which the spectator consciously experiments the mechanism of our perception: coding - decoding - intelligibility - emotion. There is no more outlines, more finite forms, more perspective, more nuances and yet the image is precise, detailed, dizzying, fascinating. The surface of the painting is reduced to an amalgam of abstract signs from near, and from a distance, by context from one to the other, become buildings, streets, windows.

The apparent Reality of this image is restored by the spectator who appeals to his memory, his experience, his decoding grid then fills the gaps and generates a mental image. Because this is where my approach is based; I want, with these paintings, to provoke a physical displacement of the spectator vis-a-vis the work, which then perceives this vertigo between illusion and reality, confusion and order, full and empty and begins to question, in turn, on the way whose Reality manifests itself to us. Patrice Palacio

Born in: 1977 France
Biography
Patrice Palacio is a French self-taught painter born in Montpellier in 1977.

His work is a bridge between painting, photography and screens. It is a reconciliation, not an opposition between tradition and modernity, between archaic painting and technology. It is always the same thing that drives him to paint: the desire to show the brilliance of life and talk about all the tricks, all the interfaces and the lies we need to catch a glimpse of the suspended time of a flash, of what reality is.

Patrice Palacio held exhibitions in Paris, London, New York, Chicago, Dubaï, Toronto, Miami, Basel, Barcelona, Berlin, Frankfort… He created in 2013 the Fragmental Art movement and wrote its manifesto. He considers the canvas as a screen and tries to make visible the way we see reality with minimal ways (no color, disturbed surface, pixel etc…) or experimental paintings (chemical and optical).
