Born in South Africa in 1944, Lee du ploy spent his childhood in Africa, his family roots can be traced back over three hundred years. His interest in psychology came at the Sorbonne in Paris in 1968, after which he went to work and research at Excerpta Medica in Amsterdam. Lee continued working in various clinics around the world including Hong Kong, and painted part time, which allowed him to focus and explore art from a psychological perspective.

Lee's work is about encounters and translation, how we perceive involves a mental picture and a translation onto canvas via painting. His book "The Glass facade" was written to record his journey of treating people with psychological problems. His art reflects his attitude, inquisitive thought-provoking, his portraits convey intimate detail of human reaction to complex problems.

Lee has exhibited his paintings since the early 1970's. Exhibitions selected include: “With Art in Mind", Zebra One Gallery, London (2017); group exhibitions at art fairs in Hong Kong/ New York (2017/2016); The Glass Facade, Blue Lotus Gallery, Hong Kong (2017); Floren Gallery, Hong Kong (2008); bFelix, Hong Kong (2008); Lee Brews: a Second Exhibition of Paintings, Gilbert-Parr Gallery, London (1979).
