Description

This artwork is a compelling exploration of geometric abstraction, characterized by a minimalist yet evocative composition. The piece consists of a grid of rectangular sections, each uniformly filled with a deep, rich hue. The dominant colors are a vibrant cobalt blue, an emerald green, and a profound black, each occupying a distinct yet harmonious space within the grid. The black sections anchor the composition, lending it a sense of weight and depth, while the blue and green sections provide a striking contrast, engaging the viewer with their intense saturation and the subtle interplay of hues. The use of solid, unmodulated color fields creates a rhythmic pattern, emphasizing the strict geometric structure of the grid and drawing attention to the precise balance and symmetry within the work. The artist's meticulous attention to the purity of color and form demonstrates a mastery of compositional economy, where each element is essential and contributes to the overall coherence of the piece. This work invites prolonged contemplation, as its simplicity reveals the complexity of its spatial relationships and the interplay of color. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of geometric abstraction to evoke emotion and provoke thought through the disciplined application of form and color.

Presentation

Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957

In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.

In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.

He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.

His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.

They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.

He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.

Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.

This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.

Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
