Description
This artwork is a striking example of modern abstract art, defined by its geometric rigor and bold use of color. The composition is divided into six quadrants, each featuring a distinct, solid hue. On the top left quadrant, a deep midnight blue sets a somber, reflective tone, juxtaposed next to a vivid, electric blue in the center left. The top right quadrant captures attention with a rich, wine-red, adding warmth and intensity to the arrangement. The bottom left quadrant mirrors the electric blue above it, creating a sense of continuity and harmony. In contrast, the center bottom showcases a darker, more muted blue, introducing subtle variations in tone. The bottom right quadrant grounds the piece with a commanding, deep black, infusing the composition with depth and gravity. The deliberate choice and placement of colors reflect a sophisticated understanding of visual balance, making the artwork compelling in its simplicity. The interplay of shades, from vibrant to subdued, evokes different emotional responses, engaging viewers on a profound level. This artwork stands as an assertive statement on the power of color and form, inviting contemplation and introspection.
Presentation
Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
