Description
This compelling artwork showcases the quintessential elements of geometric abstraction. Demonstrating immaculate precision, the composition is meticulously balanced with bold, intersecting rectangles. The dominant hues are an assertive scarlet red, an intense pitch black, and a vibrant mustard yellow. Each color block commands attention, creating a striking contrast that enlivens the overall aesthetic. The arrangement is sophisticated and methodical, with a prominent large red rectangle occupying the upper left quadrant, exuding warmth and intensity. On the right side, a narrower black stripe slices vertically through the composition, providing a stark contrast that accentuates the geometric rigor. Flanking this stripe, a narrow mustard yellow band runs parallel, adding a touch of brightness that invigorates the piece. Below, a substantial yellow block takes residence in the lower part of the canvas, bordered by a vertical black segment on its left and a red stripe on its right. This interplay of primary colors denotes a harmonious yet dynamic relationship, highlighting the artist's deliberate color choices. The essence of the piece lies in its clean lines and flawless execution, evoking a sense of modernism. The authoritative use of color and form celebrates the purity of geometric shapes, making this painting not just a visual experience but a testament to the power of simplicity and abstraction. The rigid yet fluid arrangement of the shapes captures a balance that is both aesthetically pleasing and intellectually stimulating. This artwork commands attention and respect, embodying the epitome of geometric abstraction.
Presentation
Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
