Description
The artwork presented stands as a compelling exemplar of minimalist geometric abstraction. Its composition is precisely structured, featuring a series of rectangular blocks in prominent, solid colors. The canvas is divided into six distinct sections, each adorned with bold, unblended hues that compel the viewer's attention. The upper left quadrant is a deep, forest green, juxtaposed against a rich, navy blue on the upper right. These colors are bisected horizontally by a stark black band stretching across the middle of the canvas, creating a dominant visual pathway that commands the viewer's gaze. Below, the lower left corner mirrors the green of the upper left, while the center section echoes the brooding darkness of the middle band. The lower right section offers a vivid contrast with a striking cobalt blue, lending a sense of balance and harmony to the asymmetrical design. The unique aspect of this work lies in its ability to evoke emotion and contemplation through simplicity and color relationships. The interplay between the serene greens, the intense blues, and the bridging black band evokes a sense of order and tranquility, while simultaneously implying depth and complexity. Assertive in its execution, this artwork forgoes unnecessary detail in favor of pure form and color. Its precision and clarity invite the viewer to engage with the composition in a personal and introspective manner, making it a quintessential piece of minimalist art that is both visually arresting and intellectually stimulating.
Presentation
Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
