Françoise Baron

Born in Brittany in 1955, I discovered sculpture at the age of 20. My encounter with clay, its texture, its sensuality and the possibilities of freedom offered by modeling will turn my life upside down.

In parallel with a professional activity, I study modeling and working with the earth in different workshops in Paris.

My pieces with generous curves are above all inspired by human beings, real or transposed, in all their splendor and complexity. My art today approaches cubism, subtly mixing figurative forms with an unrealistic approach.

I love the contact with the earth: the texture of clay, its sensuality and above all the infinite possibilities of creation that it brings.

I work mainly for my pleasure, listening to my desires and my emotions, the act of creation is for me truly jubilant. Modeling is an outlet, a necessity, a language, a way for me to transmit my vision of the world, my ideas, my feelings.

Finally, bronze allows the culmination and another revelation of my sculpture. Each sculpture tells a story taken from my experience, my emotions, my revolts

I like to represent the human being, man or woman, and convey strong feelings that are sometimes soothing, sometimes more disturbing. My works ripen for a long time in my mind before taking shape. When the time comes to create, I am always looking for the perfect curve, the ideal gesture, the shape that will resonate with the whole. The finished sculpture must live from the inside.

In 2011 I worked on my series entitled “Decomposition". I am then inspired by the way of doing Lipchitz or Archipenko to create pieces with strong emotions, representing the serenity or the pain of my characters. By moving away from reality, other perspectives open up and allow us to say more.

In 2016, I move in parallel towards more stripped-down forms with my “raw" series.
