Presentation

A strong attraction to harmony and an acute chromatic sensitivity are characteristics inherent in the artistic production of Emmanuel Segaut. The artist uses photography as his working tool to show the world differently: like a child discovering his environment for the first time, Emmanuel immerses himself in matter and plays with it by transposing its physical properties beyond the imagination.

Rich in a visual and conceptual vocabulary, these spaces for the gaze are an introspective experience that brings us back to the pictorial language of Mark Rothko. Like the latter, Segaut uses as much light as possible and geometric compositions to transport the viewer into a sensitive world that borders the spiritual. The work «Électrique» is an example of what we have just said: a large blue coat that immediately catches our eyes, like a flash of light falling in front of us, rapid and shrill. In the middle, a black horizon on which we rest our eyes. As in the rest of Emmanuel's works, individual memories, imagination and subjectivities participate in the production of meaning in his pieces, leading the viewer to abandon his role of simple observer. Cognitive encounters that lead us to self-reflection and the discovery of new visual realities.

A second indispensable element of Ségaut's two-dimensional work is abstraction, a language with which the artist invites us to unlearn the way we look and relate to the world. Spaces of our daily life, such as streets, museums and shop windows, among others, are transformed by the artist to obtain different planes of reality. These abstract spatial possibilities are an aesthetic consequence of the diversion of reality. Reality snippets that show us the world differently from the way we perceive it in our daily life.

Finally, Emmanuel Segaut's work is a visual universe with a multitude of potential interpretations. Transform, reveal, create illusions: the artist finds great possibilities for expression in photography and a way of showing the world differently. A game of abstractions that brings us into a unique, intimate and harmonious sensory universe.
