Biography

Jorge Vazquez: Sculptor, Eco-designer Jorge Vazquez creates lamps from the trunk of the American Agave (or Pita). Agave is a South American plant, with pre-Columbian origins, and whose name comes from the Greek "Agaue", which means "admirable". Flowering of Agave occurs by the formation of a trunk in its center, and whose seeds are formed at the top. When the Agave dies, only this wooden trunk endures, like the memory of an ecological and sustainable process cultivated by nature with patience for several decades. Jorge Vazquez's work is therefore based on a concept of natural seduction, with wood that is only used once the plant has completed its life cycle. The artist then looks for the interesting parts to create his lamps. The material will then undergo a long process of sculpture, transformation and working of the surfaces in order to create a sensual piece. Jorge Vazquez's lamps are unique. Thanks to the knowledge he acquired on Agave wood, he creates designer pieces from an organic point of view, mixing concepts as contradictory as minimalism and durability or avant-garde and nature. Jorge Vazquez works each of his lamps with a high artistic, technological level and remarkable dedication, so that each finished piece is a mixture of sculpture, design and craftsmanship, with the natural seduction that follows.
